TEDxLSSC 2017 – Inciting Innovation
Speaker, Information Literacy in the Age of Disinformation (or, How to Fight Fake News)
In 2017, I had the incredible opportunity to speak at TEDx on a topic I care deeply about: the growing crisis of information literacy. My talk, Information Literacy in the Age of Disinformation, has since been viewed nearly 200,000 times across TED.com and YouTube, and it continues to resonate with audiences around the world.
In the talk, I explore how misinformation spreads, why traditional research skills aren’t enough, and what we can do—as individuals and educators—to become more discerning consumers and sharers of information. I believe information literacy is more than an academic skill; it’s a vital part of participating in society responsibly.
Documentary Feature: From the Grove to Graduation
Interviewee and Archival Consultant
In early 2025, I had the honor of serving as both an interviewee and archival consultant for From the Grove to Graduation, a short documentary celebrating the history and impact of Lake-Sumter State College. The film explores the college’s evolution from its citrus grove roots to a dynamic institution of higher learning, highlighting the stories, milestones, and community connections that shaped its legacy.
The documentary premiered at the Central Florida Film Festival in January 2025 and remains one of the most meaningful projects I’ve contributed to—both professionally and personally. It was a privilege to help bring the college’s history to life through archival research and storytelling.
